All-Wheel-Drive MTB
Christini has developed an AWD bike with 5/6″ of travel, after having produced the 4″ travel Venture for some time now. Known simply as the Christini Long Travel, it is available as a frame kit for $1995.
By all accounts, the Christini system works exactly as advertised, and manufactures their mountainbikes for Jeep, who then rebadges them as the Jeep Rubicon AWD Mountainbike. Th…
Bike from the dead
Ever wonder what happened to your favorite mountain bike brands from the 1990s? Thanks to the internet you don’t have to wonder any more - a trip down memory lane is just a click away!
My first mountain bike was a used Bridgestone MB-5 that I bought from a bike shop called Chain Reaction (clever name, huh?). The Bridgestone was a hard tail AND a hard nose but it was surprisingly light weight…
Ski-Slope DH Racing
For the Pocono Record
December 31, 2007
“Looking for a challenge? How about downhill mountain biking on a black-diamond ski slope?”
“Blue Mountain Ski Slope is readying for its annual Bikercross. This extreme sport, which combines bicycling with skiing, has competitors racing on a downhill black-diamond ski slope at speeds exceeding 50 mph.”
“The snow-covered ski slo…
Mountainbike Wheel-size, & the Right One for you.
Mountainbikes have run with the 26″ wheel for a long time, and not because it was the best; but because it was the only size that the first fat-tire riders could use with fat tires. They came off of ballon-tire bikes, and they ran knobby moto treads for lack of anything else. 26″ wheels aren’t bad. In fact, they work extremely well; nice, given that for the longest time that…
No commentsMTB Predictions for 2008
Want to know what’s in store for mountain biking in 2008? My crystal ball tells me 2008 is going to be the year of the mountain bike as we see these developments unfold:
- The 650b will overtake 29ers in terms of sales. Okay, so maybe this won’t happen until the end of 2008 - but it is coming. 29er geometry isn’t for everyone and the 650b is a nice compromise that takes advanta…
New Years Resolution: More Mountain biking in 2008
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, New Year’s resolutions can often give you the kick in the pants you need to improve your health and happiness in the coming year. Of course it’s really tough if your resolution is to ride your mountain bike three times a week when it’s 20 degrees outside and the trails are covered in a thick crust of frozen mud and ice. Perhaps you should just gi…
Mountain biking in 2007: A review
As 2007 comes to a close I thought I’d reflect on some of our more popular blog posts and in a separate post I’ll give my predictions of the top mountain biking themes of 2008. Believe it or not the singletracks mountain bike blog just started in January of this year with this post and has gone on to churn out more than 300 posts in 2007.
Mountain biking + GPS has been a popular theme …

No commentsFirst Annual Singletracks.com National Gathering
This event is, I hope, going to be the start of a long-running tradition for our community! Set for Labor-Day Weekend, 2008; we still have not nailed down the final location.
So please, stop by the Forum Poll and vote! Even if you want it to be held in a different place, post up your alternate location; and if enough people concur, we’ll honor the majority choice.
At the Gathering, we…
Rear-view camera for your bike
Okay so this will probably appeal to roadies more than anyone else but Cervellum has a prototype for a rear-view video camera and handlebar display unit. Though the cam is way cooler than a handlebar mounted mirror or one of those helmet deals that put a mirror in front of one eye, it still seems a little out there. If you’re a slow rider you’ll always be able to see the hammerheads ap…
