Mountain Bike Oregon

;)There’s been alot of talk and high-fiving around the Mountain Bike Oregon weekends and I have to say, I don’t get it yet. I mean, I have heard that it’s fun and the trails are great but there are great trails in alot of places. It could be the wonderful event planning skills of the organizers but I’ve read plenty of people who complain about how little you get for your $300…

Share the Trail: With Motorcycles?

thumb.dirtbike.jpgI meant to post a short tidbit last week about a collision between a mountain biker and motorcyclist near Telluride but never got around to it. Ellen Hollinshead mentioned it in her Summit Daily column yesterday so I thought I’d revisit the topic today.
Hearing about this incident reminded me of my experiences riding Captain Jack’s in Colorado Springs where mountain bikers regularly sh…

Gary Fisher: Founding Father of Mountain Bikes

;)Investor’s Business Daily (seriously) did a great profile on Gary Fisher yesterday in case you missed it. The article gives a solid history of the sport and talks about how Fisher was integral in developing and promoting mountain biking. Fisher continues working to grow the sport and has received recognition from everyone including the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame and the Smithsonian.
One inte…

First Ever Colorado Trail Race

thumb.cotrailrace.jpgHow come no one told me about this? On June 13th 10 mountain bikers set out on a 535 mile race along the Colorado Trail from Waterton Canyon near Denver to Durango (good Denver Post article here). It’s about 60,000 feet of climbing in case you were wondering.
Race organizers are keeping things simple and old school with the race, starting with promotion. The race was set up through word of …

Dangers of Mountain Biking in Canada

After hundreds of mountain bikers at the Test of Metal mountain bike race fell ill last month a doctor says race organizers should have cancelled the event.
“Our future advice to the race organizers is to inspect the route prior to the race to ensure it is not littered with animal feces, and not end the race at the horse ring. If there is any horse poop, they have to remove it.”
Sage a…

MTB News Round Up

If you haven’t been following Le Tour, there’s a mountain biker in the yellow jersey - Michael Rasmussen. Rasmussen is a former mountain biking world champion and more recently, an alleged doper.
Mountain unicycling got a nice profile in the LA Times today. I saw a MTB unicycler riding down the black diamond summer slopes at Telluride and the only word to describe it is SICK.
Finally, …

Armstrong vs. Landis at Leadville: On again?

thumb.armstrong_landis.jpgBiking Bis is claiming that Lance Armstrong is planning on riding in the Leadville 100 on August 11 after all - despite previous news that Armstrong had a “scheduling conflict.” The post doesn’t explain how Landis will be cleared to race (since he’s currently banned from UCI competition) and Armstrong’s participation is still rumor at best. Still, the supposed match u…

O&P Extremity Games Start Today

thumb.bmx1.jpg Think mountain bike racing is extreme? Try mountain bike racing with an artificial limb! The O&P Extremity Games kick off today in Orlando, Florida for athletes with “limb loss or limb difference.” The competition is legit with the top rider in the mountain bike race taking home $1,500 cash.
Aside from mountain bike and BMX events the O&P Games include skateboarding, surfing, …

Want to guide a MTB tour of France? Not unless you’re French

;)A British mountain bike tour guide with Endless Ride was arrested for leading a group of British mountain bikers in the Morzine area without the proper “French qualification.” Apparently French guides in the area were upset about a British company advertising guide services in the area and potentially stealing business from the locals.
Of course tossing international visitors off your …
